Doshy Link Attack! Link Building, Make Money Online Blogs and Wordpress
May 28, 2008 – 4:36 amThis week was a very busy week for me and I only wrote three posts so far, which is a record low, ever since I started blogging on Dosh Dosh. While its been a little quiet over here, other bloggers have written some excellent articles on various topics.
Here’s a collection of them. Note that some of them you might have first seen on Sphinn, the social news/voting website for SEOs, marketers and bloggers.
While some of these links may not be directly related to making money, they will help you to manage your websites while helping you get links, traffic and attention.
I’ve also included my personal opinions on how the specific website linked can serve as inspiration to market or improve your own websites or businesses. This will be helpful when the link doesn’t point to content but an concept or tool.
David Airey, an Edinburgh graphic designer is holding a lucky draw to celebrate his one year blogging anniversary. He’s giving away $4,000 worth of prizes and I’ve contributed a prize as well.
What is interesting is how he managed to get a whole bunch of people to contribute prizes for free to his contest, which makes it very attractive and ergo, terribly popular with most bloggers.
And what do these contributers get in return? Branding and links. Something to remember if you ever want to hold an online contest (with not much cost) to boost your site. David’s contest strategy is one that works.
To celebrate the 1 year anniversary of my graphic design blog, I’m launching this bumper giveaway to thank you all. You’ve helped make this site what it is today and here are the fantastic prizes up for grabs
Debra O.Mastaler, a link building expert wrote a nice article on the seven habits of highly effective link builders. The article is written for SEOs and marketing firms but there are key principles which will apply for internet marketers and bloggers.
One of them includes translating your best content into multiple languages and submitting it to social voting/news sites. This brilliant idea is often overlooked by many Anglo-centric authors or site owners.
If you are interested in learning more, check out Aaron Wall’s extensive interview with Debra. I highly recommend reading it if you want to learn how to build more links for your own website.
If you want to get incremental, quality business to come to you instead of having to spend time and money drumming it up, consider turbocharging your link tactics with these seven “habits” of effective link builders.
Mark from 45n5 recently created a list of the Top 100 make money online blogs. Dosh Dosh is ranked No.4. I actually planned to create a similar ranking list of this sort for sites in this niche many months ago but stalled on it because I was occupied with other projects.
What you can learn from this: If you have a great idea that you’ll think will work, put it into practice as soon as possible and don’t let it fester. Outsource the work and pay someone to handle it if you must.
Someone else will pick it up soon enough and close that opportunity window. Mark’s list will probably attract and continue to pull in links and attention and it is a great idea on his part.
45n5 rank was designed to organize and feature the best blogs on the internet that discusss making money online. This web page is a must bookmark for anybody interested in the who’s who of making money online and the freshest tips and techniques for making that money.
Dan Thies has a SEO blog and his article on how to get more pages indexed with nofollow is an example of how he often goes in depth on important search optimization topics.
Dan refers to his SEO ebook often in his article and I do suggest checking that out because I have found it to be quite interesting and informative.
This particular article tells you how nofollow can be used manipulate PageRank flow on your site, thereby getting more pages indexed.
Before I go any further, let me explain why you might want to control the flow of PageRank within your site. It boils down to one major goal - index penetration.
If you can get a little bit more PageRank to your most important content, by taking some away from less important content, you just might be able to get more of your pages into Google’s index.
That’s it - that’s the key point. Getting more of your important pages indexed.
Tara from Graphic Design blog wrote about how you can use Wordpress as a Content Management System to build other types of websites. The article includes some helpful tips, along with a series of links to the Wordpress plugins needed.
This article could be useful if you’ve always wanted to use Wordpress to create niche sites or corporate, portfolio and affiliate websites, among other types.
I have been intending writing a bit about using Wordpress as a CMS for a while now. This post is made up of several parts - Website examples of Wordpress being used as a CMS, my endeavours as a beginner to use Wordpress as a CMS, a series of tips for using Wordpress as a CMS…
Alexandru has written an article on how you can create mini sites to make money. These are basically sites with less than 15 pages, each with an article targeting a specific keyword or key phrase.
I personally don’t think mini-sites are the best way to make money online, even though they might be very easy to create. As I’ve mentioned in my article on flagship websites, I very much prefer building a handful of large and popular websites, instead of mini-sites, which I find to be rather stale and mechanical.
In my opinion, the profit potential is still infinitely higher when it comes to successful flagship sites. However, what type of site you choose will depend on your interests, resources (time + capital etc.) and skill levels.
Making money with mini sites is a way of earning your income online, but I’ll say it from the beginning, it shouldn’t be your only source of income. They rely solely on search engine traffic most of the time, and the algorithms can change at any time…Still, they can be nice additions if you choose your niche right.
Keith Dsouza has released Manage Multiple Blogs, a Wordpress plugin that allows you to manage the other blogs you own from within a single central blog. This allows you to add, edit, delete or publish a post from one blog to another from within the admin panel itself. Might be useful if you own many other niche blogs.
This is the first version of the plugin so if you’re using it, remember to report any problems you face to Keith so he can implement specific fixes for future versions.
This plugin allows you to manage your external blogs from a single central blog. Yes now you don’t need to logon to multiple blogs if you want to write a post, edit a post, manage categories and yes manage your comment..
Blog Action Day. This is really quite a late link to this program, which will get bloggers around the web to write about the environment on October 15th. Education through a lateral dissemination of information.
The concept of using social causes or popular topics to centralize the attention of all bloggers across niches is quite nifty and if you ever wanted to create excellent attention/link bait, Blog Action Day would be a good example of how it can be done.
I have gotten questions from several readers who run non-profit organizations and I would suggest creating similar websites or initiatives targeting all bloggers or bloggers of a specific demographic or niche. This will help to spread your cause and the brand of your organization as well.
On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.
And last but not least, Hugh Macleod reveals the trick to marketing:
